OVERVIEW: The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the Equator in the Pacific Ocean, 906 km west of Ecuador, SA. The Galápagos Islands and their surrounding waters form the Galápagos Province of Ecuador, Galápagos National Park, and the Galápagos Marine Reserve. The islands are famous for the large number of endemic species that were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 01: USA-Quito
Overnight: Hosteria San Carlos

Fly from the USA to Quito and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Quito-Galapagos (San Cristobal)
Overnight: Hotel Mar Azul

Transfer from Quito to the Galapagos Islands. Short transfer to hotel and lunch. Visit to an interpretation Center and Snorkel at Tijeretas. Back to hotel. Dinner at local restaurant.

Day 03: San Cristobal-Isabela Island
Overnight: Campo Duro

Transfer to Isabela Island, internal flight. All day hike around Sierra Negra Volcano. Late lunch in Campo Duro in highlands to see Giant Tortoises.

Day 04: Isabela Island
Overnight: Hotel Coral Blanco

Boat ride to West Isabela world-class lava-tunnel snorkeling spot. Spot penguins, sea lions and blue footed boobies. Visit to Giant Tortoise Breeding Center in the afternoon.

Day 05: Isabela Island-Santa Cruz Island
Overnight: Camp at Pajaro Brujo Reserve

Speed boat to Santa Cruz Island. Visit Charles Darwin Research Center for introductory lecture from local scientists. Transfer to highlands and research camp.

Day 06: Santa Cruz Island
Overnight: Camp at Pajaro Brujo Reserve

Introduction to camp and highlands native fauna/flora, Galapagos Giant Tortoises. Volunteer activity relating to local conservation efforts. E.g. biodiversity survey, reforestation, invasive species removal, or similar (TBD).

Day 07: Santa Cruz Island
Overnight: Hotel Las Palmeras

Widlife observation excursion and continuation of fieldwork in morning. Transfer to Puerto Ayora for late lunch. Shopping time and snorkeling on the beach.

Day 08: Santa Cruz (Galapagos)-Quito
Overnight: Hosteria San Carlos

Last chance to shop for souvenirs and then flight to Quito. Goodbye dinner in Historic Downtown Quito.

Day 09: Quito-USA
Overnight: HOME!

We'll take some time in the morning to see some sites in nearby Quito, before heading to the airport for your flight home!
